To Secretary - With reference to his letter No. 677 & 8832 dated respectively the 7 & 23rd of May - States that the Governor General in Council accedes to Mr. Stephen Lushingtons application to be retransferred to the Lower Provinces, but that his request to receive promotion or the same terms as Mr. Brodhurst cannot be complied with. Mr. Lushington being in Calcutta on leave of absence a copy of this letter will be sent to him direct and requests that the services of Mr. L. be placed at the disposal of this Government for employment in the Bengal Division of the Presidency.
