From Governor - In reply to letter fo 24th April last. States that he has entirely misconstrued the intentions of Government respecting the Government Hill Bungalow at Singapore and has prematurely in consequence incurred expenses in rebuilding it - now proposes to rent the Buildings in preference to the disbursement on his Account of 2000 Dollars and having it rent free - Brings to notice the frequent visits he is obliged to make from one Settlement to the other and consequent precuniary loss - the appearance he is obliged to support and the scanty Allowance to meet it. Requests authority to employ Mr. Brassey as a private Secretary at 300 Rs. a month - Observes that the Recorder on his arrival will claim to have his private Secretary with Salary of 300 Rupees.
