To Secretary Bombay - In reply to the foregoing states that his letter of the 23rd May was before Government when the Resolution on the Financial Department dated 22nd August last was recorded adds that on a consideration of that letter it apprared to the G. G. in C. that if the smited duties of Principal and translator were each as the D. P. J. at first thought could be performed by Major Candy alone on a salary of 800 Rs. per month and if it were there desirable to give him that salary rather thatn deprice the Poonah College of his Services there was not sufficient ground to # new office of Translator with a salary of 600 Rs. per month and o appoints Major Candy to it first as he was onthe point of proceeding to Europe on leave of absence.
