From Secretary - With reference to letter dated 7th March/56 & to the reprot of 1857 of the satisfactory working of the Bengal # with the aid of a Junior Secretary, States that the business of the Bengal Office is now so great that it is not possibles for two men to conduct if for a continuance in the through manner in which it is all important that the business of a Government Office to be conducted the same having greatly increased since 1856 to meet which it is proposed to revent to an arrangement under which the Secretariat Staff in that increase of east shall consist of its old number of three officient footing & a Public Works Secretary will have to be applied for # To Carry out the presents object, it is however proposed to appoint a Junior Secretary on Rs. 1500 & an under Secretary on Rs. 1000 and arrangements have accordingly been made for the porpose but this could not be done unless the Lieut.
