With reference to No. 3597, dated 3rd ultimo, states that, under the explanation now submitted, His Excellency in Council is pleased to direct that the evidence of witnesses in all cases punishable under the Indian Penal Code by imprisonment for a period exceeding six months shall be taken down by the Magistrate in his own hand.
