From Governor - Acknowledges this office letter dated 18th October last, and States that as the Resident Councillor of Penang is during the greater part of the year the chief authority in the station, & in that capacity is expected to keep up a larger Establishment than he otherwise would do and considers that the salary as lately reduced is inadequate to such purpose, & that the original salary is not sure than sufficient to meet the requirements of the highest personage an a station containing in itself a considerable Eminence both English & Foreign.
