To Secretary - Acknowledges his letter No. 4499 dated the 20th Ultimo and states that the Governor General in Council entirely agrees with the Lieut. Governor as to the expediency of removing the Hill Tracts of Chittagong from the operation of the general Regulations and will be glad to see a Bill introduced for the purpose by the Legislative Member for Bengal as suggested by His Honor. Approves also of the plan proposed by the Lieut. Governor for the future management of this tract of Country & requests that a statements of the salary & establishment proposed for the Superintendent may be submitted for consideration.
