With reference to mily. dept. ltr. no. 967 of teh 29th ultimo, states tht as Govt. have expressed an opinion thta the town major is entiled to soem remmunatin for the commandant of the troosp in fort william perhaps Govt. may consider that the payment to him in a cong. bill of the amtg. whihch he may declare on honor to be disburseed by him monthly for writing.
