Reference from Rajasthan Government about the definition of the term 'Life imprisonment' in view of the varying definitions under the Act/codes applicable in the different covenanting states of Rajasthan, date of effect of the orders and their application to various classes of prisoners. Clarified:-'Life imprisonment' should mean sentence for 20 years this should apply to all those undergoing life sentence and the classification of prisoners under section 59(5) of the Prisons Act 1894 should be treated as defunct
