Forwards for consideration & orders, copy of letter from the Officer Commanding the 1st European Bengal Fusiliers, appealing against a Retrenchemnt of the difference of pay between Drummer & Corporal, make by the Mily. Auditor General from 2 Men of the latter rank holding situations of Drum & Fife Majors respectively in that corps, on the grounds that such Nominations are contrary to the Regiment & soliciting the sanction of Govt. to the appointment of Serjeants & Corporals to fill the above situations when no qualified Drummers or Privates are available in teh Regiment, a practive which has for many years obtained unobjected to, in the Regiment and which appears to be a Common.
