Transmitting for report a despatch from the ajutant General of the Army containing an application from Serjeant Major Couch of the Kumaon Battalion to be allowed to reckon the time passed in Her Majesty service in Europe and in the 9th foot in India , previous to his transfer to the service of the East India company, for the purpose of rendering him eligible to the reward of the gratuity on discharge sanctioned in the G O of May 1848 .
