With reference to a letter of a 29th July 1848 report tht it is difficult to fix with acuvacy an average note showing the real cost of rum at the different stations of the army state that the annexed statement approzimates pretty close by to the actual charges and has been duduced from a consideration of all the differenct expensed bearing upn the supply the result being a charge of annas 15.111/2 per imperial gallon orders 13-3-57 per old wine measure gaoon as the actual cost to Government or in round numbers exclusive of the Government duty add that originally the charge of Rs. 2 per to wine measure gallon for rum supplied to was fixed with reference to the amount.
