Submits, copy Correspondence with the supdt.Grand Trunk Road on the subject of performing work by contract and with a view establishmign an uniform systems of Contract for reparis of the G.J Road, submit thei cicular no 2588442of the 28th sep'r 1847/28th jany. which will shew and orders that have been issued on this subject refer to their letter no 8267 of the 18th april 45 state that in feby 50. they approved of a proposition of Lt.Coll Boilean to Commence the Contract system for works Generally and a Circular was issued to the Department that they Cannot say that the Contract system has made any very great progress the presidency.
