Advertisement published by the Board in order to obviate the ill effects of an approaching famine setting forth that all duties on every kind of grain have been taken off and that all boats laiden with grain will be allowed to pass the chankis toll free except on Lieut Col Tolleys and Mr.Page Kebles canals, imposing san embargo of grain except that which is intended for Fort St.George, and compelling all grain merchants for the period of one month tosell on demand, on pain of confiscation, table rice at sicca rupees 1-8 to2-8 per maund, balam or pucca rice at 1 to 1-7, dessy or common rice at 1 to 1-8, paddy at 13 to 15 palis per sicca rupee.
