To Secretary Bombay - In reply to above sanctions the renewal of the Contract with the Bombay Steam Navigation Company for the Mail service between Bombay and Kurrachee for two years on the terms proposed to be given by that Government for the duty viz Rs. 7500 a month all the year round or Rs. 9000 a year with regard to the proposal to invite tenders for a continuance of the service by Contract from the 1st January 1848 request that that Government will consider and report whether the said and Mail service might be carried on by any other means more cheaply than any contracting with a Private Company at a high rate for the conveyance of the Mail and observe that the Steamers which carry on the communication between Calcutta and Ports on the East Coast of the Bay of Bengal pay their expences or nearly so.
