To Secretary Bengal - Sanctions the proposal for appropriating the Ferry Funds and Tolls levied on the Nuddea Rivers & Calcutta cannals amonting in all to about 5 Lakhs of Rs. for the construction and maintenance of district roads in such propostions as may be determined on and has directed that the not income desired from the above mentioned Tolls conmmencing with 1st May 1854 be placed at the disposal of the local Government. Requests however with reference to the 10 para of his letter to be furnished with a report on the manner in which it is intended to manage the district road fund & the roads, since it appears that it is contemplated to render them independent altogether of the Department of Public Works.
