From Secretary - Acknowledges receipt of letter No. 545 dated 24th February & of Extract from Courts Despatch calling for information respecting the operation of the Hindoo Widows Marriage act XV of 1856, & forwards copy of papers shewing theat a few remarriages of widows of respectability have taken place in Calcutta & in the Lower Provinces, but that the Act has not asyet come to be appreciated or to have had a general effect.
