Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and its Extensions problems arising out of the purchase of the 1. As the line continued to run at a heavy recurring loss, the question of sharing such loss was discussed between the Central Government and the Govt. of West Bengal. (2) It was proposed by the Railway Board to close the line but the West Bengal Government wanted this to be done only when the road services were sufficiently improved and for this purpose they wanted the Central Government to contribute Rs 45 lakhs to an estimated expenditure of Rs 71 lakhs for improving of the D.H. Cart Road. (3) It was later on decided not to close the line and all steps should be taken to minimise the losses and this aspect of the matter is being pursued by the Traffic Directorate on their file No. 1487-TG/56
