Transmits copy Despatch from the Mily. Pay Master at Bombay, soliciting permission to make certain altrations in the Scale of pay of some of the Clerks of his Office; requests to be informed whether that Govt. is absolutely precluded by the Honble Court's Orders from Authorizing any such Changes in the Salaries of Clerks on the Several Office Establishment of that Presidency, and , if so, observes that there must be much inconvenience felt, & the opportunity which frequently presents itself under the System hisherto practised of increasing the Salary of Deserving Men, without entailing additional expense on the State, must be entirely lost.
