From - States with reference to an enquiry of the Government of Madras that there are no rules for granting gratuities to Uncood. Servant. That a proposition for fixing a scale for the grant of gratuities to such servants was in 1847 referred for the consideration of the Honble Court but was nogatived. In specia cases however gratueties to desirring servants have been granted and have been calculated on the allowances sujoyed by them at the time of their discharge and not onan average of their salaries for the last 5 year of their service the Government of Madras should be instructed to conform to this practice.
