With reference to No. 543, dated 5th ultimo, to the address of the Secretary in the Public Works Department, stating that Rupees 6, 330 have been expended in the erection of an office at Nowgong for the Political Assistant, and submitting an estimate, amounting to Rupees 14, 176 for an agency house, being Rupees 10, 506 in excess of the maximum sum allowed by Government for both buildings: requests he will explain why works on so expensive a scale were allowed to be commenced upon without previous reference to Government, and communicates certain orders and remarks thereon. Encloses copy of a letter addressed to the agent, Governor General, Central India, for his information, and requests he willl in communication with that officer, see that the wishes of Government in this matter are fully carried out
