With reference to previous correspondence, states that the Governor General in Council is of opinion that no harm is likely to arise from the opening of communications with the Grant Lamas of Tibet in the manner suggested by Colonel Haughton Differs from the opinion expressed in this office letter No. 267 of 19th January, as to the advantage of the existing state of things: and adds that His Excellency in Council would not object to Colonel Haughtons of a friendly kind to the Lamas through the Rajah of Sikkim, when a convenient opportunity may occur.----
